Education FOR THE CITY OF GOD
Laying the foundations of a new centre for classical Christian education in the North of England.

Watchorn College exists because Christian education is important. No matter your age or background, God asks you to worship him with all your heart, soul, strength, and mind.

Indeed, the Church throughout history understood the value of this kind of worship, bequeathing to us a rich heritage of libraries and cathedrals, art galleries and recitals. All that is beautiful and true is our inheritance, and it's all ours - to study, to enjoy, and to put into practice.

At Watchorn College we will study Church history and read the best books. We will learn classical languages and play the best music. Why? To bless our children. To train believers for mission and ministry. And to use our minds to worship him who is both excellent and true, by thinking about 'whatever is excellent, and whatever is true'.

PHILIPPIANS 4:8
"FINALLY, BROTHERS,
WHATEVER IS TRUE,
WHATEVER IS HONORABLE, WHATEVER IS JUST,
WHATEVER IS PURE,
WHATEVER IS LOVELY, WHATEVER IS COMMENDABLE,
IF THERE IS ANY EXCELLENCE,
IF THERE IS ANYTHING WORTHY OF PRAISE,
THINK ABOUT THESE THINGS."
ABOUT WATCHORN COLLEGE

Watchorn College was founded in September 2023. We are still growing, having spread mostly by word of mouth. We are thankful to the Lord for small beginnings.

We started the 2023-24 academic year with a weekly seminar on John Bunyan's Pilgrim's Progress. A group of guys enjoyed getting their teeth into Biblical Greek, and we hosted three open lectures throughout the year: Celebrating the Reformation, The Christian's Guide to Christmas, and Resisting Rainbows.

THE WATCHORN COLLEGE SYLLABUS

CLASSICAL LANGUGES
Watchorn college will offer training in Latin and Biblical Greek. Despite the popular perception that these are 'dead' languages, they are of inestimable value: Greek, the language of the New Testament; and Latin, the language of the Church. Both grant access to our history, and are immensely satisfying to learn.

When: Mondays at 5pm (Greek) / 6:15pm (Family Latin)

CHURCH
HISTORY
God's faithfulness didn't cease with the Scriptures. From the persecution of the Church under Rome, to Nicaea's stand against heresy, to the Reformation: God has guided and protected his people. This is the essence of Church history: the story of God's goodness, told over twenty-one centuries.

When: Friday at 4:30pm

SEMINARS
(‘COLLOQUIA’)
Part of the mission of Watchorn College is to build a culture of study. It is good to worship the Lord our God with our minds. To that end, we will gather regularly to share and listen to papers written by you! Questions will be asked as we seek to think on all that is true, all that is beautiful, and all that is worthy of study.

When: Half-Termly (Times TBC)

LECTURES
The ‘tent-pole’ feature of Watchorn College - Dr. Paylor will deliver termly lectures on a given subject. This academic year the theme for these lectures will be ‘Building the City of God’: beginning with a lecture on Christian education.

When: Termly (First Lecture - Sat 16th Nov 2024, 2pm)
